Rudi Buys leaves Kovsies “pulpit”

AfriForum Youth welcomed the news that Rudi Buys will not stay on as Student Dean at the University of the Free State next year. The relationship of trust between Mr Buys and Kovsies students was in jeopardy from the beginning of the year, following the JBM Hertzog matter.

“There should be support and trust between students and their Dean with mutual respect as a compulsory ingredient. Students want to know they are included in the decision making processes of all affairs which affect them,” Willie de Waal, Chairman of the AfriForum Youth Kovsies branch said.

According to the Youth Organisation, Mr Buys failed to stand up for the rights of students.

“Students actually felt like he was working against them and not with them. Our AfriForum Youth Kovsies branch earlier this year held a protest march in which we requested Mr Buys to provide us with information regarding students, their residences and traditions before any decision is taken on their behalf. In response to this, Mr Buys cancelled the Intervarsity which was an annual event hosted in conjunction with the Potchefstroom Campus of the North West University, without discussing it with students,” De Waal concluded.
