AfriForum Youth demands that NWU enforce stability on campuses

AfriForum Youth today in a letter to Dr Bismark Tyobeka, vice-chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), demanded that the university management must ensure stability on campuses and must not allow destabilizers to deprive students of their right to quality education. This follows after the university notified students on July 31 that all contact classes were immediately suspended due to violent protest actions over NSFAS’s late payments to beneficiaries.

AfriForum Youth demands that the campuses’ security be sharpened, so that there is a stable learning environment for students, regardless of incidents where violent protest actions are carried out by destabilizers. The youth organisation also demands that the university will disclose what communication they had with the SAPS to enforce crowd control.NSFAS has been known for years as an institution that is guilty of misappropriation and maladministration.

“The NWU cannot therefore just shrug their shoulders every time this type of mismanagement provokes protest action and allow students to pay for it with online academic proceedings,” says René van der Vyver, spokesperson for AfriForum Youth.
