New generation of leaders equipped to shape the future
The new student leadership teams for the coming school year have been appointed, and AfriForum Youth has equipped 43 new prefects from five schools in Pretoria to better lead their school communities. The youth organisation hosted its annual leadership event, Toekomsskeppers, in Gauteng this week. The event focused on leadership, community building and temperament, as well as the importance of young leaders developing a better understanding of themselves and those around them.
Learners from Hoërskool Zwartkop, Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool, Hoërskool Centurion, Hoërskool Tuine and Hoërskool Noordheuwel attended the event, where Dr Kirsten du Toit, a social worker, led a session on temperament and personality. By gaining a better understanding of how they think, behave, communicate and respond to different situations, young prefects can learn to make better use of their strengths, manage challenges and accommodate people who respond differently from them.

The learners also had the opportunity to meet young prefects from other schools, share experiences and forge new relationships. AfriForum Youth aims to build a wider network of young people who can support one another and work together to strengthen their schools and communities.
“These young people are now embarking on a new chapter of leadership at their schools. We hope they will not only ruminate in the knowledge gained during the event but also realise that good leadership begins with how you treat yourself and others. We look forward to the term ahead and wish each of them every success. May they use their influence to make a positive difference in their schools and communities,” says Tania Scheepers, Youth Officer for Communities and Safety at AfriForum Youth.
AfriForum Youth believes that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also have an important role to play today. By equipping young prefects with self-awareness, leadership skills and a better understanding of others, the foundations are laid for stronger schools and communities.
AfriForum Youth remains committed to creating platforms that equip young people to lead with confidence and integrity.
