22 litres of road paint improve cleanliness and safety around Hoërskool Fichardtpark

AfriForum Youth’s Bloemfontein branch improved the safety of learners, pedestrians and motorists around Hoërskool Fichardtpark on 9 May by repainting several road markings in the area. During the project, two pedestrian crossings in Hudson Avenue, the road markings at the stop streets on the corners of Van der Linde and Bergsted Streets, as well as Bergsted and Strydom Streets, were repainted. A total of 22 litres of paint was used to make the faded road markings visible again.

This initiative forms part of the organisation’s annual Herstel en Versnel project and serves as further proof of AfriForum’s ongoing involvement in improving community safety and infrastructure.

However, the project is about more than just paint on tar: it is about the safety of children walking to school in the mornings; about parents who drop their children off at the school gate every day with concern, hoping they will return home safely; and about a community that refuses to stand by while infrastructure deteriorates and people’s safety is placed at risk.

AfriForum Youth’s Bloemfontein branch believes that every child has the right to arrive at school safely and that every motorist requires clear road markings to help prevent accidents. When communities stand up and take responsibility themselves, it not only restores hope, but also demonstrates that there are still people who care about their community.

“Our youth do not only want to talk about change — they want to make it happen themselves. This project proves that young people can make a meaningful difference in their community and that safety remains a priority for us,” says Christo Groenewald, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Bloemfontein.

AfriForum thanks every young person and volunteer who gave their time, energy and effort to make this project possible. Together, we are building a safer Bloemfontein for everyone.
