AfriForum Youth tackles Brits street names during street painting day

AfriForum Youth’s Brits branch showed that young people are definitely not going to rest on their laurels and wait for change, they are going to bring about change themselves. On 28 February, this team used their paintbrushes and stencils to paint various street names on kerbstones.
There were 15 branch members who participated and eight street names were repainted. The youth showed that real action is the only way to bring about sustainable change.
This project forms part of AfriForum Youth’s mission to equip young people to take responsibility for their communities and implement practical solutions where structures fail.
“Our generation chooses not to be victims of circumstances. We choose to be builders,” says Jac-Louis Horn, vice-chair of AfriForum Youth’s Brits branch. “If something is not right, we fix it.”
According to Tania Scheepers, junior youth officer at AfriForum Youth, projects like this show that local involvement makes a tangible difference. “We would also like to encourage young people in other towns to roll up their sleeves and take on initiatives like this in their communities.”
AfriForum Youth plans to build on this momentum with further projects that will make a real impact in the Brits community. Young people and residents who believe in self-reliance, responsibility and community pride are encouraged to get involved.
