AfriForum Youth demands immediate action from Elsenburg management

AfriForum Youth today learned that a group of students once again held illegal demonstrations on the campus of Elsenburg Agricultural College. Classes were disrupted and students were deprived of their right to education. The main building of the college was stormed and students and personnel were threatened by the demonstrators. AfriForum Youth sent a final letter with demands to the management of the college.

“The college’s refusal to take action against the handful of illegal demonstrators is extremely concerning. We are in possession of photos and video material in which the offenders are clearly identifiable. If management now refuses to take action, we will go to the courts,” said Henk Maree, AfriForum Youth’s National Chairperson.

The management of Elsenburg Agricultural College has until Monday, 17 August to comply with the demands of AfriForum Youth. The demands are as follows:

  1. The students making themselves guilty of illegal demonstrations, must be charged disciplinary and undergo disciplinary hearings.
  2. The leader of the demonstrating students, Sabelwesihle Ngcobo, must undergo an immediate disciplinary hearing and be expelled from Elsenburg Agricultural College with immediate effect.
  3. Any illegal demonstrating student who is a member of the Student Representative Council (SRC), must be expelled immediately from the SRC pending a disciplinary hearing.

“We will not stand and watch how a small group of radicals determine the agenda at the college,” added Maree.
