AfriForum Youth demands answers on students’ safety at University of the Free State
AfriForum Youth has sent a letter to the University of the Free State (UFS) seeking clarity on how the university plans to ensure the safety of students following the student protests that broke out on campus yesterday (Tuesday 11 February).
As a civil rights organisation, AfriForum Youth has received complaints from several concerned students. Many of them feel unsafe and struggled to access their classes yesterday due to the disruption on campus.
AfriForum Youth demands answers on the following issues:
- Safety: What measures does the university have to ensure the safety of students during protest actions?
- Solutions: How does the university plan to resolve this situation as soon as possible?
- Support: In what ways will students affected by the protest receive assistance?
- Prevention: What steps will be taken to prevent similar disruptions from occurring in the future?
“Studying requires hard work and a great responsibility. Students should not be disadvantaged by disruptions that affect their academic time and future planning,” says Wikus van der Walt, AfriForum Youth’s officer for Structures.
AfriForum Youth encourages students who feel unsafe on campus to contact AfriForum’s Bloemfontein emergency number for assistance at 081 359 9949.
