AfriForum Youth demands action against arrogant ISC members
AfriForum Youth requested the Council of the North West University as well as Prof Dan Kgwadi, Vice-Chancellor, to take steps against members of the Institutional Student Council (ISC).
This comes after ISC members yesterday said that Monica van Schalkwyk, Deputy Chairperson of the ISC, is still suspended and that they will not heed to the decision of Prof Kgwadi or the Council which revoked her suspension.
“We almost cannot believe the arrogance displayed by the ISC members. We have sent a letter to the NWU, demanding that steps be taken against the students. They are acting outside of their powers,” says Henk Maree, National Chairman of AfriForum Youth.
“The media conference was a political stunt. The students want to involve politics in student life, especially on the Potchefstroom campus of the NWU. It looks like there’s a vendetta against the campus and any organisation which shows support to the campus.”
Meanwhile, it has come to the attention of the youth organisation that the disbanding of the ISC is seriously being considered. This decision will however remove the student voice from the Council, and AfriForum Youth believes strongly that the voice of the students should be heard.
