AfriForum wins student council election at Tuks!
AfriForum Youth kicked dust in the eyes of other campus organisations after winning 50% of the seats on the Student Representative Council (SRC) in the election at the University of Pretoria (UP).
“AfriForum Youth will, in the coming year, give Afrikaans a firm stand, prevent student residences from becoming flats and mobilise students to stand up against race driven policies,” said Monique du Randt, Spokesperson for AfriForum Youth.
AfriForum Youth obtained 6 of the 12 seats, including two seats on the Executive Management of the SRC.
The results of the election are as follows:
- AfriForum Youth – 50% (6 seats)
- Radical Youth Coalition – 8.3% (1 seat)
- South African Student Congress (SASCO) – 8,3% (1 seat)
- Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (DASO) – 8.3% (1 seat)
- Independent Candidates – 25,1% (3 seats)
“The speed at which the support for AfriForum Youth is growing proves that a voice of protest against the ANC regarding their race ideologies, which are often bulldozed through on university campuses, is taking flight,” said Eduan Dupper, Deputy Chair of AfriForum Youth.
AfriForum Youth won the following portfolios: Treasurer, Deputy Secretary, Study Financing, Postgrad and International Students and Transformation.
The Student Council is further made up of seven additional ex officio members from other structures such as TUKS Rag, student residences, student sport, student culture and academic organisations.
In total, students were able to cast 10 votes between 60 candidates. AfriForum Youth obtained 12 537 votes.
