AfriForum Youth requests information from NWU Puk campus

AfriForum Youth instructed its legal team to address a legal notice to the Council of the NWU-Puk in which they request that the report which was handed over to the minister, be made available to them. If the Council declines the request, AfriForum Youth will instruct its legal team to obtain the information in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act. 

“The spokespersons allege that the report cannot be made available, as further investigation is necessary. It is unheard of to hand a report over to the minister if further investigation is still necessary,” said Henk Maree, National Chairperson of AfriForum Youth.

AfriForum Youth is deeply concerned about the future of the NWU-Puk. The concern emanates from today’s media conference and statements made yesterday by the Vice-Chancellor, Dan Kgwadi. Kgwadi straightforwardly told the media that now is the time for transformation and that no initiation will be tolerated.

“Transformation is a ANC’s politically afflicted idea. Transformation cannot be forced, and if it is indeed forced, it will surely lead to uprising among students. Just because most of the students on a campus is Afrikaans, it doesn’t make the university opposed to transformation,” said Maree.

“We agree that no student’s human dignity should be affected, but the good shouldn’t be pushed aside with the bad. There is a difference between a healthy student life and initiation, the Council must realise that,” Maree concluded.
