Shaun Christie, a student at the North-West University (NWU), has just heard that his temporary suspension is partially lifted. Christie may once again participate in academic proceedings on campus, but he will still not be allowed at public events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Christie approached AfriForum Youth last week to assist him after he was temporarily suspended on 7 February following an incident where he allegedly openly objected to the content that was discussed during an orientation event. AfriForum Youth therefore instructed its legal team last Friday to assist Christie in this disciplinary process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The grounds for Christie\u2019s temporary suspension were discussed today during an internal discussion with the NWU\u2019s disciplinary committee. He was informed shortly after this conversation that his temporary suspension had been partially lifted. More than 100 students also took part in a silent protest on campus today to show their support for Christie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ronald Peters, manager of AfriForum Youth, describes today\u2019s decision as a positive development. \u201cWe certainly consider it a victory. With this decision, the NWU accepted responsibility for their initial decision to suspend Shaun and deny him access to campus. However, the further process is still unclear as no formal disciplinary action has been taken against him. However, AfriForum Youth will assist him till the end.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
