AfriForum Youth describes Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga\u2019s statement, that Grade 11 learners who failed should be promoted to Grade 12, as untenable. The youth organisation is also of the view that the matric pass rate of 75,8 % is misleading.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s unjustifiable to promote a Grade 11 learner who flunked. It is common knowledge that such a learner will probably not pass Grade 12,\u201d Henk Maree, National Chairman of AfriForum Youth, said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis approach is unsustainable and will not solve the problem of uneducated youth in South Africa. Learners should rather get the necessary support from Government, and the quality of education in poorer communities should enjoy greater priority. Greater focus should also be placed on the foundation phase to minimise problems students may encounter later on,\u201d Maree said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
