AfriForum Youth recently equipped 47 young leaders from five Western Cape schools with the skills and knowledge to lead their schools and communities with greater confidence and understanding. The youth organisation\u2019s annual leadership event, Toekomsskeppers, focused on leadership, temperament and community building, aiming to help young people better understand themselves and work more effectively with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learners from Durbanville High School, HTS Drostdy, Parel Vallei High School, Porterville High School and Bloemhof Girls\u2019 High School attended the event. The session provided leaders with an opportunity to learn more about their own temperament and personality, as well as how their individual characteristics influence their communication, decision-making and leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Kirsten du Toit, a social worker, facilitated the session and shared valuable insights into the learners\u2019 temperaments and personalities. \u201cBy gaining a better understanding of how they think, behave and respond to different situations, young leaders can make better use of their strengths and approach challenges with greater self-awareness. This also helps them appreciate the differences between people and create space for different personalities and approaches within a team,\u201d says Du Toit.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Toekomsskeppers focuses not only on individual development but also on building relationships between young leaders. The 47 leaders had the opportunity to meet learners from other schools, share experiences and forge new connections. Through these events, AfriForum Youth aims to establish a wider network of young people who can support one another and work together to strengthen their schools and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want young leaders to realise that they do not have to wait until some distant point in the future to make a difference \u2013 they can start making an impact today. By getting to know themselves better, understanding others and working together, they can make a meaningful contribution to their schools and communities. We are grateful to every school that made this opportunity possible and look forward to seeing the difference these leaders will make during their term,\u201d says Tania Scheepers, Youth Officer for Communities and Safety at AfriForum Youth.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
