AfriForum Youth\u2019s Tuks branch, in collaboration with the AfriForum neighbourhood team in Pretoria East, repaired a dangerous pothole on the corner of Lynwood and Brooklyn Road last week. A total of 3,5 tons of tar were used to repair the single pothole. This giant pothole posed a serious danger to motorists and pedestrians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality has simply avoided the pothole for the past six months, this action forms part of AfriForum Youth\u2019s continued efforts to empower communities and provide practical solutions to infrastructure challenges,\u201d says Yvonne Gerber, Youth Officer for Development at AfriForum Youth.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Leam Nieuwoudt, vice-chair of AfriForum Youth\u2019s Tuks branch, says students refuse to stand back and wait for problems to solve themselves. \u201cYoung people have the ability and responsibility to make a difference. This project shows exactly what is possible when we join hands and take action ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The community\u2019s enthusiasm for the repairs and support of the team is proof of how much the repairs were needed. Gerber says every motorist who stopped to greet the team, take a photo and even those who dropped off refreshments made the job a little easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cProjects like this are not possible without an involved and supportive community,\u201d concludes Gerber.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
